Swiss naturalisation: requirements at a glance
Residence
For ordinary naturalisation you must have lived in Switzerland for at least 10 years. The cantonal and municipal residence requirements vary between 1 and 3 years depending on the canton.
Permit
You generally need a permanent residence permit C. With a residence permit B, ordinary naturalisation is not possible, but the years still count towards a later calculation.
Language
You must prove that you master a national language: at least B1 spoken and A2 written. Which language is tested depends on your canton of residence.
Costs
The total cost of naturalisation is made up of federal, cantonal and municipal fees and ranges between CHF 500 and CHF 5,000 — depending on the canton and municipality.
